When you love someone, remember this...

See, I don't think you can love someone because of something physical or even an ability. Because time will wither a person's body and something like greatest athlete doesn't last forever either.
You gotta love somebody for their core. The core of a person is who they are way deep inside.
It's not their job title.
It's not how many awards they have.
It's not the car they drive.
Or else it's just lust.

Don't love someone because they're beautiful. Don't love someone in spite of an addiction of some sort.

Because neither are permanent.

THE ADVENTURE OF NATALIE'S FIRST CONTACTS

Book: Saling To Sarantium - Guy Key
Song: Cooler Than Me - Mike Posner
Food: Congee (I just ate at Congee Wong's yesterday)
Quote: "If we don't end war, war will end us." - H. G. Wells

I recently got my new contacts today. They're test runs to see if I can handle them or not.
They're soft lenses which means they should be more comfortable and less irritating than hard lenses.
Now get your butt comfy in a big boss chair, grab a super-sized bucket of greasy buttery popcorn, a diet coke and maybe even your favorite plushie because this is my adventure of my first contacts.

THE ADVENTURE OF NATALIE'S FIRST CONTACTS

The minute our little red car scuttle into the driveway, I took off to my bedroom and plunged into an unmade sea of blankets.
My plans for today got squished and the humid air both made my hair go flat and oilier, but made my mood go flat and apparently... oilier. I stole Charlie from the corner of my bedroom and plucked an E string. The noise buzzed through the room.
I just went to the eye-people's place - as I like to call them. You and Eye Optical.
Catchy.
There I got to pick out my new pair of glasses, a sheek and simple squarish black frame. I was happy with my new findings, sashaying around the small store, swiping huge motorcycle-like sunglasses, propping them up my nose and pulling funny faces into the surrounding mirrors.

Until, I heard the dreaded word: Contacts.

Back in grade 3, I ADORED contacts! You can even say I was absolutely in love with them. I thought they were so cool, how you got to squirt 'em down with transparent chemicals, poke them in and out of your eyes and store them back up until tomorrow's morning.
Then grade 4 struck and I realized how uncanny I looked without glasses. I am one of those people where glasses can add accents to your strikingly boring face. With no frames on my face, I look terrible.
Something in my gut triggered a burp. My head twirled over and like a dog, my ears sprang up.
"I can give you 3 pairs of soft lenses to try on for Natalie."
Of course, contacts were cool and everything... they seemed like a breeze.
So there we went, trooping out the store with a dinky purple gift-bag of contact essentials.

My mom caught me in my room, hands clicking over my computer's keyboards, silently cursing as I played Grand Theft Auto. She ordered me to the washroom.
There she explained how to properly keep good care of your contacts.
Always begin the procedure with your right contact, never add in tap water, try not to drop it and BE CLEAN. She also presented me with a little slip of paper and ran down to the kitchen where a faint scent of charcoal started to waft through the house.
The miniscule font basically instructed you how to keep your contacts clean, the do's and don'ts of contact safety and how to remove and insert them.

  • Place one lens on the tip of your index finger.
  • Keep your head up and look straight ahead.

  • Pull down your lower eyelid with the middle of your finger of your opposite hand.

  • Look up steadily at a point above you. Place the lens of the lower white of your eye. Remove you index finger and release lower lid.

  • Look down. Close you eyes for a moment, and the lens will center itself.

  • Repreat procedure with other lens.

  • After putting both lenses in, rinse the lens case with your preferred multi-purpose solution and allow to dry.

Easy right?

So I went ahead and Viet-squatted myself up on the bathroom counter, leaning my face close into the mirror. (My mom gave me a smaller mirror for comfort but it didn't help much).

The problem was, it wouldn't slip in. And the other problem was - I couldn't stop blinking!

Okay... put it in the bottom white *blink!*

Shoot. Okay, one more time. *blink!*

DAMMIT. Okay okay. Keep going...

blink!blink!blink!blink!blink!blink!

After a long while of unsuccessful attempts, Mom came upstairs, bathed the contact in solution again, split open my eyelids and slid it in with ease. I was flabbergasted. She repeated and the left one went in.
Oooh. The sensation of your first contacts. I wanted to dance! No more glasses!
But everything was so... unleveled. Like... double rainbow. Omigod.
Dancing was going to be a definite challenge. Cross that off the list of What to do When You Have Contacts. So I played with Charlie, read a book, played Paper Mario and ate Mayan Chocolate icecream. Whoop!
I spent some time in them and just around 6, I had enough. They had to come out.
Removing them is a whole other tale worthy for sometime later. But let me tell you, it was twice as funny and all the more blinking.

What would you say if I told you I loved you?

LOOK LOOK LOOK
A HEART

Book: ANYTHING BY TOLKIEN
Song: Old Brown Shoe - The Beatles
Food: Instant Noodles
Quote: "Get to da chopaaa" - The Terminator

I don't know what to blog about yet my mind has been forcing me to make another post. Hmm. My ideas are mostly revolving around Vietnam-related topics but I also want to keep it fresh and lively. TIME TO TAKE BLOGGIN' SERIOUSLY.

Anyway, I just wanted to say something:
Thank You.

You're probably thinking I'm thank you-ing a kajillion people, and I am. I would like to thank you EVERYONE who helped me get through life's problems, who sent (and still are) me bundles of unwavering love, who were the crutches whenever I broke a limb, who made me explode with laughter on the days where a smile was impossible to do, said the smallest things that simply made my day and especially were able to share those special one moments with me.
You know who you are.
I am so lucky to have the absolute coolest people on this Earth as friends to thank. I couldn't be any happier than I already am. Just thinking of you guys and the most hilarious times make me blossom with smiles. Which I guess explains the weird looks I get when I randomly start to giggle in class.
If ever come the day where I were to lose at least one of you guys, you can just about tear open my heart and shove a dagger right through.
Without thinking twice and doubt, I can say, I love you guys.

One very pixelated picture explains a thousand words.
There were much too many memories to ever write down. If you asked me, I'd be rambling on forever. Camping was much too epic for words. I loved it.

CAMP CAMP CAMP

Book: The Vampire Lestat - Anne Rice
Song:
Toothpaste Kisses - The Maccabees
Food: Apple Blossom Cakes
Quote:
"I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered." - Jesus Christ Mark 14:27

Haha, the recommendations sound so holy.

Here here, I'm at Em's house, packing, computering, guitarin' and farting up a typhoon.
Whoop.
I'm going of on a wicked adventure tomorrow, one I've been mentioning about now and then - CAMPING. PBC Camping to be accurate.
Its an approximate two hour drive from where she lives (of which I am certainly not telling you creepers) in a peninsula called Pres'quile. There we will be tent camping around a bonfire, do many Vietnamese related activities, exchange our
Vuot Bien stories and be consume by swarms of mosquitoes.
Sounds awesome, doesn't it?
Even though its tent camping, a shower and bathroom facility will be located near by. But it seems the washroom is a single toilet with a six feet hole, drilled down, containing our fecal matter. Splendid!
I can't wait, we have a annual meteor sprinkle raining down the skies this August Friday night - one you can't see from the city, I think. It will be a beautiful night, with Charlie (my guitar) by my side and flying red rocks shooting down the skies.
I can't wait.

Over and out.

You're so awesome.

I've heard many boat people stories in the last little while and they all make me want to cry. May's dad said that 2 million people left Viet Nam, and that only 1 million made it out alive. 1 million people... that is comparable to a good chunk of Toronto. 1 million people died out at sea or at the hands of pirates, or even worse, at the hands of the Viet Cong. The 1 million that did make it out were separated from family members and were forced to learn how to exist in a new world. Yet these 1 million were given a chance to live in freedom. These 1 million are our parents. We should make every effort to learn about their incredible journey. - Ray Huynh

Topic Zero

Book: The Silmarillion - J.R.R Tolkien
Song: Hosanna - Hillsong United
Food: Gala Apples
Quote: "I've never been this close to a man" - Stanimir
&
"A day without a laugh is a day wasted" - Charles Chaplin

Today at the PBC, inspirational and petite Kimmie taught us the dance for pumping up the night around the camp's bonfire. It's really awesome and the practice is hilarious. Together, the dance's final product should be real spectacular.
We ate chips, gummy bears until we felt like crapping up a typhoon, Vietnamese food, passed an orange around in various quirky ways, and thrusted all throughout those 6 hours.
Emilie and I went to FairView Mall today and bought some Tolkien books. Along with a baking book which we basically scan the pages, gawking at beautiful baked goods we would never possibly make.
At New York Fries, a lady messed up our poutine order, making a small instead of a regular. She ended up sneaking us the extra small for free. At first, it was "Yay!" but midway into the meal, it was "Oh God, I'm going to puke."

Magical Moments #1: The Oprah Whoop

Why doesn't anyone know about the Oprah Whoop?

This was definitely an Oprah Whoop moment.

NEW TOILET

Book: Do Not Pass Go - Kirkpatrick Hill
Song: If You're Reading This - Tim McGraw
Food: Crab Soup - not shark soup
Quote: Any girl can be glamorous. All you have to do is stand still and look stupid. - Hedy Lamarr

Shark soup is a perplexing thing. I strongly recommend everyone watch this documentary called, "Sharkwater". It's going to open your eyes about our underwater "enemy".

Endangered animals aside, we got a new toilet! It's the eco friendly kind which makes it all the better. And let me just let you know, this is not an automatic toilet - if you know what I mean ;)

The picnic was a blast. We took a good portion of photos, played loads of badminton and climbed "risky" rocks out into the sea. We however did not go swimming. The option really turned us off, especially when we discovered three large metal tubes dispensing mysterious liquids out into the water.
My cousin (Emilie) had to leave early, she had a summer exam to study for. If she doesn't pass, she won't make it into the program she's been wanting to go in for Uni.
Good luck!

I'm Hungry

As usual.

Book: Fast Food Nation - Eric Shoscller
Food: Green Cupcakes
Song: Know Your Onions! - The Shins
Quote: "Your birth is more important than your death" - ??

From a previous baking attempt, my sister and I were left with a Ziploc bag containing 3 cups of green sugar.
I recipe called for 3 cups of confectioner's sugar which I mistakenly claimed, 'was the same as every other sugar.' So we measure 3 cups, added the mint extract and stirred.
We began to wonder why it wasn't turning into mint icing.
So now, stashed deep in the back of my desk is an air-tight-sealed, 4 month old bag of green sugar.
And with that sugar, we're going to make cupcakes!

Green Cupcakes!

With a strange minty taste.
Hmm.

I'll post pictures of the finished product. This will be quite interesting.

Family Fun

For the pass 3 days, I haven been enjoying wonderful times with my cousins and adding plenty of new mermories for looking back upon.

Woodbine Beach
The beach party was AWESOME! Dispite the algae-infested beach water, I had loads of fun! The weather man lied, there was hardly any rain. Just spitting down on us now and again. We played volley-ball, waddled out into the freezing cold water and took plenty of pictures. I met some incredibly friendly people and after that whole adventure, I came back smelling like the 4 S's: Salt, Sand, Sunscreen and Sweat.

El Trompo
Someone tell me what El Trompo means!
That place makes awesome food. It was really worth the long walk after my... strange and actually older cousin made some... strange decisions.
The dishes come in very small portions but the food is very decent and filling. The employees are also very polite. Too hot inside, they set out tables, chairs and umbrellas for us 10 cousins outside in the rain. It even gives the vibe of an authentic Mexican restaurant; oven-hot heat indoors, rickety wooden tables with pictures of Mexican culture related items and a women walking around holding a baby. HAHAHA, I'm kidding about the baby. But the vibe makes the place feeling... better? I don't know, I just loved it. It really brings you back to Mexico.
Rating: 4/5

Shutter Island
Yesterday (technically this morning), 8 of our 10 cousins stayed up to watch Shutter Island, a movie one of them bought from HMV.
Shutter Island is a thriller, mystery mostly. It's basically about a U.S Marshall that is called to a mental institution on a remote island called Shutter Island to investigate a missing patient. He uncovers loads of secrets and finds out this island is more than meets the eye.
After I watched the movie, I was totally... speechless. The movie was FREAKIN AWESOME. I was so dazzled I couldn't do anythine except for clap. Now looking back at this movie, it was so mystical, I just want to cry.
I won't spoil anything but let me tell you, don't watch this movie if you're... not smart. (:
Rating: A Kajillion / 10.

Many other crazy and fanatical stuff happened that definitely made me smile.
I love my family.

Midnight Post - NEW BANNER

I've got a new banner!
It's my first banner: Poppy Seed Bread - Where happiness can be found in each chomp.
I just need to center it which I can't figure out how to do but it looks fine anyway. (:

Tape Worms

Book: Speak - Laurie Anderson
Song: Self Inflicted - Katy Perry
Food: Chicken
Quote: I love to see a young girl go out and grab the world by the lapels. Life's a bitch. You've got to go out and kick ass. Maya Angelou

My sister didn't get to go to work. She woke up late due to our racus in the bedroom neighbouring her - our's. We were up too late talking, moving and laughing.

My cousin and I have just been lounging around the house, boring ourselves outta boredom.
"I'm bored."
"...Wanna go see if the OC is on?"
Yes, that's how bored we were. Plans to watch a movie got cancelled out by washing the dishes then brawling on the Wii yet again.

Did you know, people eat tapeworms just to get skinny? And you know how horribly disgusting that is? I watched on the episode of Tyra Banks today about tapeworms and how unsafe it is. When people eat tapeworms, it seems to have a weight loss effect to it. 100 days into the weight loss, to get rid of the tape worm before it matures and starts shedding eggs, you have to piss is out and boy, is it revolting. I don't even want to post any links of it, it makes me nauseous.
They can grow up to 15 feet long. Oh dear lord.

On less puking terms, I need some desperate ideas on what I should do during the summer. So if anyone could be possibly reading this, just post your ideas in the comments below on anonymous. (:

Never Drink Ice Cappacino Before You go to Sleep - Unless You're Pulling an All-Nighter With A Friend.

Really, follow this advice because we're writing this blog right now. And its horrible youll feel terrible morning!

Interesting Fact Time!

1. If G.I Joe was a real person, he couldn't brush his teeth because his muscles would get in the way of bending his arm.

2. It's impossible to sneeze with your eyes open.

Midnight Post

Just about 10 minutes into the new day, I will blog.
Yes, I know, we should be sleeping but we both drank a little too much Ice Capps at Timmy H's.
My little cousin is feasting her eyes away at the raw words of Twilight my sister allowed her to read.
In my personal opinion, its not good nor is it bad.
Whether you like it or not, it mostly depends on the kind of reader you are. A good book to me would feel as if each and every sentence stood out to me in a deeper way. Twilight doesn't make me click.
If you love Twilight based on the 'hawtness' of Edward or Jacob, or even hate Twilight because the 'cool' kids are up to it, you really can't embrace the heart of literature.

Another Day, Another Dollar

Day 3 of blogging.

Book: A Little Friendly Advice - Siobhan Vivian
Song: You Man - Down With Webster
Food: Mango Salad (Thai)
Quote: I'll think of one later.

Plans have altered. My cousin is staying over 'till Saturday.
Today is the twin's birthday! Happy 19th Birthday Vanna & Oliver.
On saturday, I'm heading off to the beach for a real beach party. The volleyball and bbq's and all. I've never been to one in so long. I most likely will not be swimming even though I can. Body-conciousness? Nahh.
I'm not that sel-concious about my appearence, not at all, I just hate to change in those little dirty washrooms. All boys have to do is slip into shorts and what not.

I'll be taking a bounty of pictures though! Photography skills. :)
My awesome & oh-so-gorge-juice cousin Annabelle has the exact camera I have been longing for for a loooooong while now.
Time to look for one of those wicked Nikons.

WE BEAT TABUU

Book: Perfect - Natasha Friend
Song: One of the Boys - Katy Perry
Food: Fried Rice (Asian all the way!)
Quote of the Day: "A passport, as I'm sure you know, is a document that one shows to government officials whenever one reaches a border between two countries, so that the official can learn who you are, where you were born, and how you look when photographed unflatteringly." —
Lemony Snicket

WE BEAT TABUU.
That stupid wierd blue translucent floating fairy guy.

We, as ultimate brawlers, took 5 tries on easy to defeat the stupid Tabuu thing.
Here's how it went down.

Our Characters (in order of use)
1. Pikachu
2. Kirby
3. Zelda
4. Metaknight
5. Marth
6. Donkey Kong

It was the most intense moment of my sad life - so far.
My cousin was Marth and I was D.K.
At the end when Tabuu does that crazy-wing-flap-thing we were so scared we were going to die.
So we just kept screaming, "SIDESTEP, SIDESTEP!!!!!!"
And then, both of us sidestepped on time and we were so desperately happy.
Then we jumped, and smashed at him one more time.
And Tabuu died.

We were on the verge of crying. ;)

Now for our day. My sister went to off work so there was no one to properly wake me up. Though my cousin woke up on time yet didn't even bother waking me up. We trooped downstairs and DID NOT eat a hardy breakfast. She ate yogurt and I ate this disgustingly big danish = not healthy.
Then we blasted music and listened to SORRY SORRY.

DANCE DANCE
(korean singing)
SORRY SORRY SORRY
NIKKA NIKKA NIKKA

I really need to go excersice again. Volleyball anyone?
T'was epic.
During lunch time, her mom & dad took us out to eat at this Peach Garden place. It's average Vietnamese food but the bubble tea was deliciously awesome.
That is mostly it for today. Have a nice day.
And remember to always wash your sweaty hands.
Especially after beating Tabuu.

Mango Bubble Tea FTW.

WE BEAT TABUU.

Automatic Toilets

Automatic Toilets

It may seem as one of the futuristic assests in our life but even the automatic toilets have their flaws.

1. It flushes when you're not done.

Just in the middle when you're crapping up a storm, it flushes. Wastes of water and a bad impression. People think you 'did 'numero deux' a little more than the average person causing you to flush twice. They look at you with an almost viewable thought bubble stating, "Explosive Diarrhea?"

2. The flush is so strong, it wets your pants.

Embarrasing much. The water sprrrraaays onto your trousers and even the back of your brand new shirt! I think this is quite self-explanitory.

3. If you drop something in the water (before you let it flow), you'll never get it back - unless you're lucky.

Lets just say I know this person who dropped her bronzer inside an automatic toilet and never got it back. EVER! Where as in a manual flusher, you can stop it before it clogs up the drain pipes.

But looking at the bright side, it does reduce the chances of swine flu.

Automatic Toilets - the future's best friend.
